“It’s an exciting time to be a Hayley Westenra fan”. That was the headline of her newsletter [that I received in my inbox today]. While an argument could be made that it’s always an exciting time to be a Hayley Westenra fan, the upcoming release of her new album Hushabye is really really awesome. What’s even more awesome [for me, as a music student at the University of Aberdeen] is that my Composition lecturer, Paul Mealor, has written one of the songs that will be on the album.
The track, Sleep On, has been dedicated to the impending birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s child. It’s a fitting gift: Hayley Westenra has performed to royalty all over the world and the Royal couple personally chose Paul Mealor’s music [Ubi Caritas et Amor] for their wedding last spring. What a perfect present for their little baby when it comes!

Hushabye is due to be released June 17th! I can’t wait!
