New Kilpatrick Parish Church, Bearsden
In my Ethnomusicology class, we’ve been asked to research a composer from our hometown. My hometown is Bearsden, just outside Glasgow, and on the Tobar an Dualchais website, I came across a Bearsdonian composer named Ian Davison. He composes a variety of traditional-style music ranging from the political (Mandela Danced) to the romantic (Wrap Me In Yer Airms) to music for dancing (Room For Us A’ In The Dance) or drinking (Swally Fur The Bears). Davison is one of the foremost composers of what is known as the “Scottish Folk revival”.
I’ve decided to share what I’ve learned.
Enjoy!
